Abstract
This article presents a set of ideas and observations regarding nocturnity as an object of sociocultural study. It approaches two music scenes that take place in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz: rock shows and the community celebration of fandango with its sound, the son jarocho. It contextualizes both scenes in the history of electrification and analyzes them in terms of a temporal order divided into groups of nights considered as cold, warm, and hot. The differences found therein support the notion of a cultural production of nocturnities as expression of the complexity and diversity of the urban present.
