Alteridades is an editorial space for the publication of original research work, theoretical reflection, and book reviews related to social anthropology and ethnology. It is a biannual national and international academic journal, edited since 1991 by the Anthropology Department of Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Izatpalapa. Its main aim is to advance scholarship among the scientific community that endeavors in research on social anthropology and ethnology.

Its social relevance lies in promoting specialized knowledge to understand national, regional, and global issues from historical, ethnographic, comparative, and theoretical perspectives. The journal seeks to strengthen dialogue among academic communities, public institutions, social actors, and the public interested in understanding social reality.

All contents are open to everyone. This policy is based on the principle that offering complete and free access to the material allows for a greater global knowledge exchange.
