Alteridades is committed to receiving, doing a pre-evaluation and, in case of fulfillment of editorial and pertinent criteria as established by the journal, sending submitted texts for peer-review.
In each and every case, the journal will subject those texts approved in the pre-evaluation process to a double-blind peer-review.
The journal will maintain anonymity of authors and reviewers.
The journal’s editorial processes seek peer-reviewers to act under given terms so as to guarantee objectivity.
Alteridades will be in touch with authors during the following steps of the process:
- Rejection in pre-evaluation
- Sending out reviews of author’s text
- Galleys proof-reading and acceptance by author
- Notice of text published in print and on line
The criteria under which an article sent to Alteridades will be published are:
- Affinity and pertinence of text within the journal’s editorial line
- Strict fulfillment of editorial criteria when sending originals
- Positive evaluation of text by at least two peer-reviewers
- In cases of discrepancy between two reviews, text will be sent to a third reviewer
- Revision of text based on observations and changes deemed essential by peer-reviewers
- Editorial decisions shall not be based on the nationality, ethnicity, political position, sexual orientation or religion of authors
- Alteridades certifies that articles sent by members of its various editorial instances and reviewers will the subjected to the same academic-editorial processes followed for any other author
- Disagreements vis-à-vis peer-reviews must be addressed to the editorial committee in writing, including justified reasons behind divergences. The committee shall then make decisions that will be final
- Members of editorial instances and reviewers may not use, under any circumstance, information included in texts sent to the journal prior to their publication
- The journal’s Director and Editorial Committee may reject texts that do not meet the general criteria of academic pertinence
- The responsibility of accepting or rejecting a text is a prerogative of the journal’s Director and Editorial Committee. Their decisions will rest on the anonymous peer-reviews.
Rules for peer-reviewers
The reviewers are committed to:
- Ponder in an objective and constructive manner those texts accepted for his/her review.
- Offer an explicit review based on his/her knowledge of the topic covered; arguments presented must be clear for the Committee and for the author, avoiding the use of adjectives.
- Evaluate the paper in no more than 3 weeks, so as not to slow down editorial work and harm authors; if due date cannot be met, it must be timely informed to the journal’s Director and Editorial Committee.
- Inform the journal’s Director and Editorial Committee if he/she is not qualified to evaluate the topic of the assigned article, if reviewing a material represents a conflict of interests, or if there is an academic reason not to publish the article. In any of these cases, she/he will not accept doing the review.
- Send the review form duly filled in and signed in order to ease the Committee’s evaluation.
- Not disseminate or use the contents of the article sent for review, which remains confidential up to its publication.
- Evaluate following these criteria:
- Congruence between the text’s topic and the journal’s general orientation
- Relevance of topic covered
- Original contribution to knowledge about theme and/or discipline
- Consistency of text regarding presentation of objectives, their development, argumentation, bases to reach conclusions and, wherever relevant, use of empirical evidence
- Adequate recourse to theory and methodology to obtain data pertinent to the research aims
Rules for authors
Authors are committed to:
- Submit original research. Any article previously published will not be accepted.
- Not to send their papers to any other journal while in Alteridades’s evaluation process.
- Fully meet the journal’s editorial criteria.
- Present a final version of their text that includes comments and changes requested by reviewers.
- Approve publication of their institutional address and email.
- Authorize electronic distribution of their work.
