Peer Review Policy

All submitted articles undergo a preliminary review process conducted by the Editorial Board, which decides whether to proceed with the editorial process. If the article is approved for further consideration, a double-blind peer review process begins, following the selection of national and international reviewers who are experts in the fields of social anthropology and ethnology. Articles are reviewed by a minimum of two experts in the topics addressed by the manuscripts. In the event of a disagreement regarding acceptance or rejection, a third expert will be consulted. If both reviewers approve or reject the article, the process will continue or be discontinued, and the author will be informed of the decision. The reviewers’ evaluations will address the following criteria:

  1. a) Consistency between the text’s subject matter and the journal’s general focus.
  2. b) Relevance of the topic
  3. c) Original contribution to knowledge regarding the topic and/or discipline.
  4. d) Consistency of the text in terms of the presentation of objectives, their development, argumentation, justification of conclusions, and, where applicable, the use of empirical evidence.
  5. e) Appropriate use of theory and methodology to obtain data in accordance with the research objectives.

The journal’s editorial processes will ensure that reviewers adhere to the guidelines for reviewers in order to guarantee the objectivity of the reviews received.

Alteridades will notify authors at the following stages of the process:

     * Rejection at the preliminary review stage.

     * The content of the academic reviews of their text.

     * Author’s approval of proofs.

     * The journal’s “in press” and “online” publication statuses.

The criteria under which an article submitted to Alteridades is published are as follows:

     * Affinity and relevance of the text to the journal’s editorial line.

     * Strict compliance with the editorial criteria for submitting manuscripts.

     * Positive evaluation of the text by at least two reviewers. In the event of a discrepancy between the two reviews, the text will be sent to a third reviewer.

    * Revision of the text based on the observations and changes deemed essential by the reviewers.

Editorial decisions may not be based on the authors’ nationality, ethnicity, political views, sexual orientation, or religion.

Alteridades guarantees that articles submitted by members of its various editorial bodies and reviewers will be subject to the same academic and editorial processes applied to any other author.

Any objections to the reviews issued must be addressed to the Editorial Board in a document that provides a reasoned and substantiated explanation. The Board will decide on the matter, and its decisions are final.

Members of the editorial bodies and reviewers may not, under any circumstances, use information from manuscripts submitted to the journal until they have been published.

The Editorial Board and the Editorial Committee may reject texts that do not meet the general criteria of academic relevance.

The responsibility for accepting or rejecting a text is the prerogative of the Editorial Board and the Editorial Committee, who will base their decision on the corresponding anonymous reviews.

If articles are approved, they will be published following a style editing process and in accordance with the journal’s

editorial guidelines.

Upon publication of the work in the journal, the researcher retains their copyright, grants a license for use for this first edition, and explicitly authorizes Alteridades to distribute it electronically. Alteridades allows authors to promote and disseminate their article for academic or scientific purposes on networks, repositories, academic profiles, and social media after publication, always giving credit to the original publication in the journal.
