Plagiarism Policy

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work, the proper use of sources, and obtaining permission when using third-party materials.

Alteridades promotes academic originality and rejects any form of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, manipulation of sources, or misuse of third-party materials. Plagiarism is defined as the presentation—in whole or in part—of ideas, texts, arguments, data, images, translations, field materials, interviews, documents, or any other content belonging to others as if it were one’s own, without proper attribution. The journal considers the following to be improper practices: copying excerpts without proper citation; paraphrasing others’ ideas without acknowledgment; using translations without reference; presenting parts or the entirety of a previously published work as new; reusing significant portions of one’s own publications without indicating so; manipulating citations; deliberately omitting relevant sources; or using protected images and materials without authorization or credit.

Similarity Check

Manuscripts may be reviewed using similarity detection tools, particularly the iThenticate software, direct editorial review, or other procedures deemed appropriate by the journal. The presence of textual matches does not automatically imply plagiarism; each case will be evaluated considering the extent, nature, source, context, and citation format.

When a possible instance of plagiarism is identified prior to publication, the journal may request clarification, ask for corrections, suspend the editorial process, or reject the manuscript. When plagiarism is detected after publication, the journal may issue a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, depending on the severity of the case.
